    This is a very good question. According to the testimony of his accountant, Manafort's business income was $400k in 2015 and a loss of $1.2m in 2016. He was pulling down in excess of $2m/yr until his patron, Yanukovitch, fled the Ukraine. In 2015/16 he was taking out fraudulent loans to keep afloat.

    Then in 2016 he goes to work for Trump... for free. I find that curious.
