I was conservative when I joined this board. I was a McCain fan in 2000-2007 and supported him in 2008. On Election Day, though, his shift and the party’s shift, headlined by Palin, was too much and I couldn’t vote for him.

Since then I’ve drifted to probably center-left and I feel the GOP has drifted ... somewhere else. It’s been awhile since I identified with more than a few conservative candidates, though I honestly believe there are some I could support in the future. For now, though? The GOP is very sick and needs a thorough cleansing before I’ll vote for more than a few token local candidates.

You'd think if he really cared about his son, he'd try to strike a deal with Mueller: Don Junior won't be prosecuted if Trump the Elder quits and never comes back. I'm not sure Mueller would -- or should -- go for that deal, but I'm also pretty sure Trumpists' lord and savior won't ask.

Mueller can't agree to that deal legally and to do it sub rosa would be sure to go public due to the Trump family blabbermouth factor. He wouldn't consider it for a second.

Didnt this start at “he’s the liberal voice for the board” and now has goalpost moved to “who do you agree with more?”

Conscience of the board. And no one seems to disagree.

But I ask the question for a specific reason. If @typefitter answers it honestly, you’ll se where I’m headed. And no goalposts will be moved.

That's because your argument was so stupid, most others didn't bother.

I'm not going to go back and look, but I think there was some thoughtful discussion with @Batman. Was there some stuff that was over the top? I have no doubt. I've always enjoyed a conversation with @Batman.

But, I also don't spend a split-second of time worrying or wondering about who's posting here and who's not. Who cares?

There's a political divide, especially with the far left and far right, that is never going to be repaired. The anger has certainly spread more toward the middle as well. I know a lot of conservatives are embarrassed by Trump. And they also don't like the cult-like nature of the Republican party — many just don't know what to do. If Congress changes hands in November, I think we'll see a lot more spine. But Trump has to become a political liability for that to happen.

The middle-left and left are angry for good reason. There's never been so much lying and corruption in plain sight. Trump is clearly using the office to line his pockets. His actions and words smack of racism. And he lies more than seven times a day. Blatant, provable lies. Trump supporters don't understand why that pisses people off. Because they believe him, not the truth. And that is damn scary.

How do you meet in the middle with something like that? How do you compromise? There's absolutely no solution to that.

And throw in the fact he's undermining a legitimate investigation and eroding confidence in our intelligence communities. And treats Russia better than our allies. How do Reagan Republicans stomach that?

I'm just not sure what defense there is for Trump. Other than the Supreme Court. And that stokes anger, too, because the seat Trump filled was downright stolen.

As a journalist, I'm particularly pissed off with the "fake news" and "enemy of the people" bullshit. The anger he's stirring up is going to cause violence. Not to mention the fact we need great journalism now more than ever.

Any president gets credit/blame for the economy. It's good right now. I hope it stays that way. But it's also not a good defense of Trump. He took over a good economy that has continued to be good.

    So here we are.

    Or, quit saying dumb stuff.

Even you know that’s not the reason. But while I got ya, I’ll ask you. With whom do you agree more, @YankeeFan or @heyabbott?

You say this, but it’s pretty clear he’s mostly ignored except on the NBA thread. Most of the time he’s sharing memes or his posts are barely readable.

Are you OK with ignoring racism? If you don’t speak out at least once in awhile, are you not complicit?
