Per capita spending on healthcare is $8k already. Every American's share of the national debt is $64k, and personal debt per capita is $54k. Not being able to afford something hasn't stopped the US in doing anything, ever. Switzerland is the Rolls Royce of universal health care and they spend $2k less a year per person than the US and have better health outcomes than the US.

I suppose we could afford a $30 trillion budget, too, if the printing presses can keep up.

    That's a different problem.

But the idea that we can't reapportion the federal budget is nonsensical.

How about we spend just a little bit more on clean drinking water for Flint, Michigan and just a little bit less on the Pentagon?

Yes, and their people don’t go bankrupt over medical bills. No price gouging.

It's amazing how far less affluent countries than America manage to have universal health care and free or cheap tuition. How do they do it? MUST BE BLACK MAGICKS.

I say shut the fucking military down and let Canada carry the load. They have free everything up there, so a giant military shouldn't cost much.

C'mon, those retired generals, majors, colonels etc. earned their free golf at the Presideo.

You can't fix the problems in education, housing, infrastructure, etc., by throwing money at them. The only place you can fix problems by throwing trillions more at them is the DOD. We can be safe until we've outspent every other country by at least a 30-1 margin.

In France, it's very simple. People pay high taxes for a high level of services and doctors don't expect to become as rich as CEOs. The problem with instituting more, let alone all, government-financed health care is the part where you tell doctors and many nurses they're getting a pay cut. Medicare and Medicaid worked because although doctors get paid lower fees, they more than made up for it in volume due to the expansion of the customer base. If everyone was in such a program, the public's interest in cost control would require cuts in payments to vendors, that is, hospitals, doctors and drug companies. Good luck with that.

If anyone looks like somebody named Wilbur, it's Wilbur Ross.
This guy has a mouth that you would see on a ventriloquist doll.

It's complicated, of course. You guys are too deep into a shitty system. But if you tell a doctor he or she is going to make $300,000 a year instead of $750,000 a year (actual figures from a friend of mine who practiced in the US and now practices up here), what do you think they're going to do? Quit? Become what else? Move to another country where they'll get paid less?
