You're asked every election. The politicians we vote for negotiate those salaries.

 

Wouldn't it be simpler if we removed the annoyance of negotiating salaries and just set them? Just leave it up to a few people to determine who is worth what. Has that been tried before? It sounds familiar. In any case, I think @typefitter would agree that the worth of an individual's work should be left to the experts.
