So, these folks wanted to peaceably assemble, but the police presence led to violence.

    That makes sense.

There’s a tape of her being fired by JOHN Kelly.

Do you not see, in light of the police’s impotence in stopping any of the white supremacists’ aggrsssion last year (Frontline last week was great, BTW), that their enhanced presence this year could be read that way?

    It’s certainly a jarring juxtaposition.

I'm talking specifically about the N-word tape. I'm not saying her entire story is bunk. Nor am I arguing against the notion that the prevailing question should be 'How in the hell did she get a job anywhere near the White House?'

    1) You're right. These people can't have it both ways. They are angry -- justifiably -- that there was insufficient police presence last year. If they don't like the fact that it's amped up, they don't do their cause any favors by acting in a manner that justifies police presence.
    2) That first photo from the Post link cannot be from yesterday. Look at how everybody's dressed. That ain't the way you dress for 88 degrees.

The 3rd party votes are not really an "also." Those were mostly protest votes.

Let's not pretend the GOP in 1992 is the cause of squat. It was the 2016 primaries, and it was factions within Clinton's own party labeling her not liberal enough and holding her responsible for her husband's 1994 Crime Bill that has been reimagined by some as the "new Jim Crow." Clinton's attempt to pivot toward them was clumsy and unsuccessful, they saw through her fourth quarter pandering, and they thumbed their nose because they figured she'd win anyway. They believed the polls. Science. What they didn't account for was people lying about voting for Trump, which plenty of people did, because if they said it out loud they were judged.

That's the scary thing about Trump voters. You think you know who they are. But in some cases you don't.

I can see trump saying it not because he says it regularly or has a clue what it really means. I think he’d say it because it would impress his base. He’s saying it like a 10 year old says ‘fuck’. For affect only.
