The idea that the clearance is some "benefit" or courtesy to those who have it is bunk. The point is so they can be a resource to the government if they need to consult with them on a matter that may have crossed their desks when they were in office. Now? The governement can't even ask them questions about it because they aren't authorized to know that information.

 

You're a smart guy I've always liked and respected. But I gotta ask, do you really think "Safe Space" is a fitting moniker for a forum that was created to be an extremely lightly to NON-moderated forum where members can speak freely without concern for policing?

It's perfectly OK if you guys wanna come up with a derogatory nickname for the other board. But the one y'all have chosen seems rather dumb and uncreative to me, as it describes essentially the opposite of that board's declared intent.

 

Obama had a Space Force. Maybe if Trump knew this was something Obama was in on from the first flight - Trump will dump the idea.

All fair points. I was just rolling with the name others had given it since in the past it was verboten to refer to spinoff boards by name.

 

LOL. I didn't "run away." While I appreciated the invite from DQ, I was/am hardly a charter member over there.

I stopped posting there because a) I don't have time for another message board and b) while I respect DW, I had more pressing things to do IRL that day than engage in one of his pedantic arguments. I never circled back because I had decided I wasn't trading this place for that one. Sorry that I never gave him - or others - the satisfaction of my response to his viewpoint.

 

It is because in many cases they have dealt for years with people on the other side, understand them and their motivations, and they are repositories of institutional memory. If they don't retain Top Secret clearance, you can't mention what the actual issue is to them. That hamstrings the communication. "Yeah, I remember that guy from when he was stationed in New York. Don't even think about drinking with him, I think they gave him a bionic liver. He really favors human intelligence. It's not that he won't use bugs, but he's a genius at turning people in places you would never expect.".

This was never an issue before. We're talking about top echelon officers with decades of service. They just made the fatal error of mentioning that the Emperor forgot to get dressed that morning, and he's a vindictive sumbitch.
