Pirates send prospect Shane Baz to the Rays to complete the Chris Archer trade

Rays get Shane Baz from the Pirates as the player to be named later in the Archer deal. Baz is among the top 100 prospects in baseball added to the return along with Austin Meadows, a top prospect who impressed during his time in the majors this season, and pitcher Tyler Glasnow. Glasnow was an elite prospect, though that hasn't translated to the majors yet.

It is a significantly better return than what the Pirates got in the offseason for Cole, who is a better pitcher than Archer. I get that it is about team control, but it's also paying a higher price in talent because they won't pay the higher prices in salary.

Throwing a punch, that'll cost him a couple of games. But why toss Hundley?

Seattle and Oakland locked in a scoreless battle in the bottom of the 11th. Certainly not a must-win game for the Mariners, but if ever there was a game you want to win to get into the playoffs, it's this one. They are 3½ games behind Oakland. Can't keep falling back.

So they are saving Edwin Diaz for a save situation that might never come.

 

You can't make the playoffs if you're 4 1/2 back on August 15?
