Everybody can't be above average. Which means you get into an ever escalating arms race with ever escalating costs. That is what is happening in college sports. CSU is paying Mike Bobo 1.8 million dollars a year to coach the football team. Last year they had an offensive coordinator making more than $500,000 (which was not enough to keep him when Tennessee called).

It really makes no sense for more than about 50 schools to pursue big-time football. And that's a high estimate. The great conference consolidation has done nothing but create new patsies and ruined some previously prestigious basketball programs.

I just saw where the Ole Miss-Texas Tech number is only 63. That seems like easy over money.

I just have to vent for a second here: I have four wedding to attend on Saturdays this fall, the first of which happens this weekend. Only one of those weddings are friends of mine. The other three are friends or family of the fiancee.

Fortunately, the only serious UGA game I'll miss is at LSU, but dammit, that's a big game. Regardless, there are other games I wanted to watch on those Saturdays. I'm going to miss Auburn/Washington and Tennessee/West Virginia this weekend. If I'm lucky, I'll catch the ends of Notre Dame/Michigan and Alabama/Louisville. I thought we all agreed not to do this to each other, especially in the south. Fall Saturdays are holy days and don't need things like marriage muddying them up.

Is this the true sacrifice of marriage? Why does love have to be so difficult? I saw college football first, shouldn't my allegiance be there?

Why is life such a nightmare?

    Central Florida/UConn under 73.

Lots of stellar value for week 1.

Also - if there’s a line on Nichols-Kansas, I may like Nichols to win.

This is my ONLY weekend for nothing but college football. Son has soccer tournaments and college visits every other weekend. I’ll be damned if I get interrupted for anything this weekend.

Didn't see an actual "line" on it, but I did see a predicted score of 14-10 KU.

At some point, Long is going to have to bite the bullet, eat the 3 million (DOLLARS?!?!?!?) buyout and move on from Beaty.

I'm officiating tomorrow and Friday night. 2 day golf tournament Saturday and Sunday. Will watch first quarter of Tech game before 2:00 tee time. Will have a game on projection screen at tournament during calcutta.

At this point many don't even want him here. I think he still has a little to prove and deserves time to do so but a sticking point is he's 2-7 against CU, Wyoming and Air Force, 0-3 against Boise and 0-3 in bowls. He hasn't exactly figured out how to win big games. I think most fans would love for him to be a stepping stone at this point. That means a fantastic season. Still have CU, Arkansas, Florida plus those others this year but the Hawaii game doesn't leave a good taste. He has had some health issues too that impacted the beginning of this year but that doesn't change that it's looked a lot like the past.
