I think one of them was part of a one-off deal and the second game was part of the $5 million Florida paid CSU to buyout McElwain. They had agreed to $3 million first, CSU wanted five and Florida said sure but you have to come to Gainesville to get it.

Needless to say I'm guessing Florida wishes they kept the receipt on that one.

CSU has to pay the debt service on a $220 million stadium that was nowhere near totally funded. Crowds in the 25-30K range don't generate plenty of money.

Last week I did pretty well...don't get used to it.

LSU (+10) at Auburn, 3:30 p.m., CBS -- Taking Auburn and the points here. Burrows is not a good quarterback and their running game isn't good enough to cover for him. Wouldn't be surprised if this is a 24-3 type of snoozer.

South Florida (-9.5) at Illinois, 3:30 p.m., Big Ten Network -- Taking USF and the points here. Feeling like this will be a three-touchdown win for the Golden Brahmans

Can't really pinpoint a third, might just ride these two.

Marvelous. Miami can claim it played a true road game at Florida Atlantic. Hope they didn't get a flat tire on that 50-minute bus ride back to Coral Gables.

Yes. With FBS having grown to absurd levels, the big boys have so many options. Virginia can play at Trump University of Lynchburg, as it will this year, and claim a “non-conference road game.”
For a program at Virginia’s level, they’re done with this at Oregon, at USC business. Not aspiring to make the playoff, they’re content with 6-6.

If you want the SEC to play more "real" non-conference road games, tell the organizers of all these Week 1 neutral site "Kickoff Classics" to STOP INVITING THEM.

The Liberty-Virginia game is in Charlottesville. They're scheduled to play in Lynchburg at some point, but it's not this year.

We'll see what happens this weekend with the hurricane. UVA might be looking to fill an open date quickly. Maybe a home-and-home in the same year!

Most teams are scheduled four, five, six years out. Some coaches like to play "big" road games. Gives the team something to work toward during the off-season, gives the fans a road trip. What is stupid is that the coach and the AD probably weren't around when most of these non-cons were scheduled, and are probably signing off on games they won't be around to be part of either.
