The article is great, as is the entire series, but the highlight is the top comment:

Speaking of that, my son, as a baby and toddler, used to love watching "Bear and the Big Blue House." It was pretty good, although Ojo was Caillou-level annoying.

He semi-outgrew it for a year or so, then some episodes came back on and he wanted to watch. In one of them, Bear had a female bear "friend" visiting and he wanted some "private time," so the other critters were going to spend the night out in the woods. Ojo complained , with some jealousy thing going on about having to share her friend.

I about lost it, both in shock because they were actually going there with Bear hooking up on a kid's show, and laughter.

 

Those were real Americans.

 

Were there disputes over the total? Did an early total increase exponentially once more "research" was done?

That being said, I'd love to see the info from Katrina. I'm interested in what kills people most in hurricanes, to better avoid such deaths in the future.

There is a reason to question EVERYTHING. Anyone who disagrees should never work in journalism.

 

Didn’t the Katrina dead totals go down after the first few months? I distinctly remember wild media reports from the first few days of mass deaths and sharks attacking people and gun battles, and then the media started realize many of those stories couldn’t be proven and the total number of deaths came down.
