It's all so weird. There are at least a dozen appeals court judges who'd deliver the votes Republicans want on the Court. Why stick with this guy, who is becoming more of a political liability by the minute. Susan Collins must've lost her lunch when she saw the Post story.

 

I believe her, because of how awful her life is about to become. Hasn't Kavanaugh now been caught lying numerous times? That seems like the opposite of a virtue in a judge.

 

Because he is on the record as saying POTUS can’t be disciplined or troubled by any investigations. Very specific shout-out to Trump.

Was either party truly anti-war at the time?

 

No. This was the first election I was old enough to follow and Nixon and Kennedy spent almost all of one of their debates talking about who could be tougher than the other on "Red China" over the islands or Quemoy and Matsu. I never learned exactly where those islands were, but they were a big deal. You could make the case that the closest thing to a prominent antiwar pol in the Cold War prior to Vietnam was Eisenhower.

I used to think that way, but I'm not sure that Mueller is playing the game the way I thought. Fredo holds no government or political post to my knowledge. I think Page is next, but it could be either or both of them, given Manafort.
