Right. She's never made that allegation. So there's that.

And denying an allegation without knowing the allegation is hollow

And what a 15 minutes it’s been! Threats, upheaval of daily life, going into exile for safety.

Let’s look at this another way, from a purely political standpoint.

By now it appears there is enough credibility to the accusation that it cannot be easily dismissed. It must be part of the confirmation process. Will this accusation force the hand of red state democrats or GOP women senators who otherwise might have voted for him? Even if he’s elected, does the GOP want to be known going forward as the party that put not one but two justices on the SCOTUS who faced credible sexual misconduct accusations prior to confirmation?

Best case for the GOP at this juncture is they take a bad beat and move on. Worst case is they got outmaneuvered the same way McConnell stole the Garland nomination from Pres. Obama. At least Pres. Trump can still put up another nominee.

But isn't this the point? Why would she make something up about a guy that nobody knew and why do it in a private setting? What would she have to gain by doing this at the time? Only 3 people (assuming the two guys didn't tell others at the time) really know what happened but if I were a betting man I would guess that she is at the very least telling the truth as she remembers it. It would seem as if Judge coming forward with a strong denial under oath would be a no brainer if he can truthfully do so.

That this nomination is used to justify putting up with a Trump presidency, makes me think it will go through. I don't think a GOP Senator will pay a price for a yes vote. The sexism is baked in. It isn't like people ever though the party was good for women. A no vote though? They'd be seen as a Judas.

Why do people keep saying this?

Haven't the past few years indicated that no matter how low it gets, we can go lower?

So what's the end game here? Kavanaugh goes down, then Trump nominates someone the Dems like?

The reason the GOP won't back down is that a new nominee would push the confirmation past Election Day. At worst, Kavanaugh steps aside and Trump picks Barrett.

Its kind of funny - used to be that a Catholic President was a worry because people thought he would take orders from the Vatican. Now we nominate judges because they follow orders from the Vatican.
