I'm kind of fascinated by the SCOTUS, and that includes how we got to this point. I don't think we'll ever see either party settle for a true centrist again. Perhaps that's not completely a bad thing. Someone needs to stake out the fringes, for lack of a better term, because sometimes the minority voice in the short term becomes the prescient one in the long term. But it has unfortunately brought a slimy level of partisanship to something once treated with a higher degree of reverence.

Perhaps someone already posted this but here's an informative episode of the NY Times podcast "The Daily," about the GOP's 30-year plan to transform SCOTUS: A 30-Year Plan to Transform the Courts

And I do agree it was silly -- bullshit, even -- that the Republicans blocked Garland's nomination. It's your time and your turn, you get to pick. We're always in one election year or another. Using that as the logic to justify it was dumb.
I just wonder what it's going to take to hit the reset button. For leaders on both sides to realize that going tit-for-tat is an ever-escalating game of stupidity chicken.

What's really silly is not even giving him a hearing or a vote.

If anyone thought Obama should not have been able to put someone on the Supreme Court during his final year in office, they would have been within their rights to vote no.
Holding a vote would have only been a victory for Obama if they approved Garland.

Not content to live through a Clive Cussler-esque story called "The Russia Probe" Trump also:

Kavanaugh is on the court unless an amazingly credible witness corroborating Ford turns up (hint - isn't going to happen) or he rapes her on camera during the hearing. McConnell will see to that.

I also think that the Dems taking the Senate is a very big reach. No more than a one in three chance. The math of vulnerable seats and the gerrymandering has not changed that much since the campaigns started. The D's will take the House and be a big uncooperative pain the in R's ass. They will investigate, release documents that the R's refused to, and in general do what they can, but there are limits.
