I've always thought Wegmans has good prices on groceries, especially the store brand stuff.

    This is false.

Publix might look like any other supermarket, but its products are light years better than Safeway. It's offensive to put Safeway in the same playing field as Publix. The former is garbage for its Signature shit brands but the customer service is atrocious. What other supermarket chain keeps one or two registers open when the store is packed with people.

Any Harris Teeter fans (or detractors)? Happened upon them in Raleigh when I was up there visiting my son, and they've got some really interesting selections/offering all throughout the store. Plus, any place I can get a fresh cannoli, gets extra credit from me.

My son has one close to its house and loves it. I do, too. Huge, clean, great selection. I don't know if that's representative of the entire chain, I can't imagine it is not. Would happily make it my "regular" store if I was in that area (which I may be soon)

As for Wegmans, the deli/butcher shop, etc. can be pricey as can the by-the-pound ready to eat stuff. But a lot of their stuff is very reasonable. K-Cups are 5.99 for 12 and you get one free if you buy 5. I always buy a case of breakfast blend and a case of hazelnut when I'm there. The Wegmans knockoff cereal rivals Trader Joe's in terms of being close to the real cereal.

All this said, I'm not as big a grocery snob as it sounds. I love a clean store. I hate a dirty store.

Harris Teeter is Kroger's more upscale subsidiary.

I was in a Wegmans once. It was jaw-dropping.
Wegmans is like the theme park of grocery stores.

Wegmans store brands are very, very good. And cheap. Also, their bagels are crucially good.

The one time I got to go to a Wegmans, I saw a candy area like never before. And this was in addition to the coffee bar, the wine bar, the cheese room, the deli, the meal stations, whatever. Wegmans is a theme park of candy, too ...

It's OK. Honestly, a bit overpriced for everyday stuff. On the other hand ... at a previous stop in the state, we had a desker who would grab us all foot-long subs for $5. Better than anything you'll get at any chain, and at a better price to boot. Also, a good place for a cake unless your budget allows for a serious bakery.

Harris Teeter does have regular "by 2, get 3 free" promotions.

When I can get 10 liters of Diet Pepsi for $4.40 or 5 tubs of ice cream for $8, I'm making the trip.

Not a big bread guy. Whenever I get a Big Mac I throw away the top bun and then invert the middle bun for a double burger instead of a triple decker.
