According to this story, Kavenaugh refused to answer questions in mock hearings. WTF does he think will happen in a real one on national TV -- real national TV, not just cable? His nomination would go down the tubes in that moment. Even chickenshit Susan Collins couldn't swallow that one.

The weird thing about the "Kavenaugh is the fifth vote to protect Trump" is that it assumes the other four Republican choices already on the court are in the tank for Trump, too. Which is very much a fact not in evidence.

 

Nominees don't answer anything. They don't have to. I'll be shocked if there are any repercussions.

The only possible holdout is Roberts, right? Have Alito, Thomas or Gorsuch ever voted against their klan?

 

This is just wrong. Nominees testify at length under oath. Kavenaugh already has (lied his ass off, too). They can't just dummy up.

 

The standard answer on any substantive issue of law is "It's inappropriate for me to comment on a matter that may come before the Court." Never gets challenged.
