This isn't limited to the US. There's a band from Glasgow called Glasvegas.

They still try to use it. Cannot imagine anything happening there or in Starkville that compares to Vegas.

I’ve heard my hometown referred to as Nashvegas for at least 30 years.

Like was noted earlier, I think the city needs to be a -vile for proper flow.

Also, Fontucky and Ventucky are slang for Fontana and Ventura here in SoCal.

I’ve seen a lot of lower income towns have -tucky added to the end.

Comparing Fontana to Kentucky seems awfully unfair to Kentucky.

    Rantucky for Rantoul, Ill.

    That's the joke.

Here in Virginia, we have Farmvegas, home of Hampden-Sydney and Longwood.

I have heard that when you are traveling to Vegas you have pretty much nothingness on the highway then out of nowhere is this huge patch of life. This was probably in the 1960s and 1970s.

Towns that have tons of shit off the highway when you have miles and miles of nothing on the highway is what I thought the -Vegas names come from.

I’ve heard Fayetteville, Arkansas referred to as “Fayette-nam” before.
