    The Phantom Menace, Robert Mercer.
    I am stunned I don't hear his name more often in regard to all these machinations.

    Neither, and none. But if I had mooned someone (or even waved my junk at them) as a goof during a drinking game at a college party 35 years ago it shouldn't constitute "sexual assault." It's not cool and, pardon the phrase, a dick move, but it's not sexual assault.
    If that's the standard that goes on our permanent records and haunts us to our dying days, then every college girl who has ever flashed her tits at Mardi Gras should be in a whole heap of trouble one day.

    People are not quite understanding the reckoning here in bemoaning that this stuff never used to happen.
    The society has gained some appreciation for accountability and that isn't going away.
    No need to stay stuck in 1956 like Chuck and Orrin.

    <Shudder>
    But seriously, given the presence of cameras and social media nowadays, if youthful mistakes and shenanigans are going to get ratcheted up to this level then the Supreme Court hearings in 2045 are going to make this one look like kindergarten.
    And speaking of kindergarten, God help you if you ever stole somebody's blocks or called one of your heavyset female classmates fat when you were 5. There are rules. You're going down.

    Same as it was when it happened. A distasteful act to which the reaction was probably overblown, but also politically necessary because the Democrats painted themselves into that corner. They couldn't claim to be the party of zero tolerance on that issue and then let one of their own do it without destroying their credibility.

    What do you think of the Republicans' credibility these days?
