The funny thing about this thread is that @Reddy235 says he is just here to debate the Athletic's path to success when we all know it's more than that. Just say what it is Reddy.

I am interested for those who have subscriptions..is it worth the price say when your promotional deal runs out?

  2. To me it is. I haven't loved every hire they've made but there are enough writers (at least in the sport I follow the most closely) that I consider to be must-read that I would feel like I'm missing out if I didn't subscribe.

    What a shit benchmark.

There are many reporters who are excellent at what they do and do not engage on Twitter. Just because someone has tens of thousands of followers shouldn't give them an advantage.

I agree that Twitter followers are not, in and of themselves, a benchmark of quality reporting. But for a new brand attempting to draw readers, hiring writers with a broad social media following is not at all irrational.

On the flip side, some print journos spend half their time building their "brand" or presence, yet they can barely piece together a readable feature.

Reddy sucks and nobody likes him. Just a big dumb crybaby who’s salty as hell about not getting hired by The Athletic

Josh Robbins from the Orlando Sentinel just announced his switch to The Athletic to cover the Magic...

Damn, they're even raiding beat writers of the lousy teams...

I'm sure the gig beats the hell out of writing for the Sentinel.

    Exactly.

The best reporters are the ones who don't tweet. Of course, there are some exceptions.

Really? Think the list of good reporters who are on twitter is longer than those who aren't.

I said those who don't tweet, not those who aren't on the platform at all.

And, when I say don't tweet, I mean not posting hot takes or useless commentary.

I don't follow it that closely but most of the good reporters I think of do tweet: Ken Rosenthal, Adam Schefter, Adrian Wojnarowski,
    Frank Isola.

thought you were saying you know good reporters who don't tweet. is it just that they do tweet but only provide useful
    commentary?
