An intern fielded the call, told her mother. Her mother told my cousin and she told me. Can’t vouch for it. But I believe it more than I believe trump about his taxes

The vote was 50-48. Daines was at daughter’s wedding. Who else didn’t vote?

Murkowski voted present either than no as a courtesy to Daines. Common Senatorial practice.

I've been wondering if term/age limits might make an already contentious situation even worse. Look at what we have now, where Gorsuch takes what should have been Garland's seat and Kavanaugh comes on to clearly push the balance to the right. NOW imagine than Ginsburg was also forced to retire in the next year or so by statute.

You'd like to say that would just speed up the turnover. RBG would have retired under Pres. Obama so he could name a younger successor. But a GOP congress could have approached that nomination the same way it did Garland.

If the SCOTUS is supposed to be a separate branch with checks and balances on the executive and legislative, than the only way to fix this is probably to take the nomination process and advice/consent completely out of the hands of those two branches. But I don't now what the better idea is, and we may be too far gone to correct the bench's partisan identity.

So for those of us who said this was a job interview and inocent until proven guilty did not apply, did we walk right into this one?

I don't get it. He's a Republican who's never gonna vote for a Democrat. Why is this relevant? Are there millions like him? You won't find out on Twitter. That's why we have polls. Republicans are always angry because this country has brown people in it and women can vote. They don't get more mad. It's like the Hulk in the Avengers.

A libertarian is a Republican who hasn't had a date in a long, long time.

I'm not as concerned with age limits as I am with term limits. There is a proposal that has been floating around for a number of years that makes way too much sense for it to ever actually be implemented, in my opinion, that would limit the nine justices to staggered 18-year terms. The result would be a new justice getting appointed every two years. So each president would have the opportunity to appoint at least two justices. Both parties should be in favor of it because it would guarantee a certain number of seats for each president, but it won't happen because both are too drunk on the power they have in the moment.

As someone who once considered himself a libertarian, I think this is a pretty good assessment.
