She should take them to a nearby Waffle House.

That video is unavailable, or so it said for me.

I just got a flash flood warning email - I'm a long way from Florida. So I wonder if it is a separate rainstorm.

I've eaten at Waffle House several times. Each time, it's a glorious experience.

I once stayed in a hotel with a Waffle House and a Bojangles in its parking lot. I didn't use the rental car much, but I did not leave any lighter.

Seriously. That's a hotel I could end up living at. It'd be liable to eat myself to death. You could make a movie out of it: Leaving Gastonia.

I remember the wife and I were on vacation a few years back and saw a Nationals game on July 3 and had Phillies tickets on July 5. On July 4, we got a room in New Jersey right across the river from Wilmington and were planning on going to the Independence Day festivities there that night.

Instead, we ended up walking across the parking lot to the Applebee's for lunch and getting drunk, spent the late afternoon/early evening in the pool and then watched the DC fireworks show on TV.

My memory could very well be incorrect, but I'm fairly sure the hotel was in Kannapolis, North Carolina, and it was probably a Hampton Inn. Godspeed, my friend.

I've been out of the loop on this one because I have been at Topsail Island. Most of the ocean front is trashed. The dunes are wrecked, and almost all crossovers are kindling. Most of the damage to homes seemed to be from people losing shingles or siding, and then water coming in. Even then, it was the taller houses. Single-level housed fared better in most cases if they weren't ocean front. It will be two years before everything is back to a pre-storm look... signs, awnings, debris, etc. I won't say its business as usual, but several local business are open. Surf City Pier lost 185 feet off the end, and I was on the pier talking to the folks already working on rebuilding. The pubic areas of the beaches are officially "closed" but you can access the beach from many locations. I wouldn't say there were a lot of people on the beach, but plenty of locals were out walking around, fishing, wading, etc.
Below is a picture that I took first hand this week. It's on the beach about a mile and a half south of the pier/bridge. Honestly, the inland areas around the Cape Fear and Northeast Cape Fear are far worse the TI.

I was thinking that sounded a lot like the Dale Earnhardt Blvd. exit on I-85. If so, that immediate area also has a Cracker Barrel and a locally-owned joint, called Breakfasttime, that beats the shit out of the other three.
