Whether Lee was a great General is debatable. His greatness was mythologized after the war as Jefferson Davis was assigned blame. Lee was a brilliant tactician. But his overall greatness as a General is not something that ought to be assumed or taken as a fact. He gained no ground in the Civil War more than moving through western Maryland through to Gettysburg where he was defeated as much by his own failures as Union success. He survived to fight another day because Meade didn’t follow up.

    Sorry, that doesn't fly.

You can't play the "every president can state a simple, obvious truth about a Civil War general EXCEPT the one WE decided is racist" game.

I can't think of a single reason for Trump to tell that "story."

It's not even a story, it's a Civil War word salad.

Does Trump picture himself as Lincoln, looking for a general?

Is he Lee? Is he Grant? Is he Lee Grant?

Is he talking about Kavanaugh's drinking?

Is it a dog whistle for white voters put off by the Kanye visit?

Just another wtf in a presidential term of nothing but wtfs.

You can say Patton was a great a General despite his flaws

But you can’t escape the fact Lee was a general whose goal was to insure human bondage.

    George Washington, "very fine person."

This shit really never is going to end, is it?

    Depends what you mean.

I was making a joke about the fact that the infamous Charlottesville protest was over the removal of a statue of - wait for it - Robert E. Lee.

You know, talk shit about G-dub all you want. But leave Martha out of this. Martha, she was a hip, hip, hip lady.

Every day, George would come home and Martha would have a big fat bowl waiting for him.

George was also in a cult, and the cult was in the aliens.

She got her due. Probably too much, according to Abigail Adams, who was known to complain . . .

    "It's always Martha, Martha, Martha!"

You write this as if people just randomly started calling President Trump a racist for no reason, which is utter bullshit.
