What the fuck is up with Saudi Arabia being a "longtime, trusted ally" anyway?

Because somebody, somewhere decided 75 years ago that they were? And millions of Americans just unquestionably went along for the ride.

I take no ally seriously. I take no rival or enemy seriously. Because why they are what they are is simply politically driven matter of convenience with little regard to anything else and can change at a moment's notice.
