Beto in the neighborhood of a three-percent margin. Cruz won last time by 16 percent.

Beto is going to get around 1 million more votes than Cruz's challenger last time. Alas

A couple updates from Out West:

    • Jon Tester is hanging on by a thread. With 74 percent of the precincts counted (per the NYT website), he's down 2.3 percent to Matt Rosendale. BUT, the precincts still out are in "blue" areas of western Montana, such as the counties containing Great Falls, Missoula and Helena. He really needs those voters to come in for him.

    • A similar deal in Arizona's senate race, where Martha McSally leads Krysten Sinema by 0.8 percent with 94 percent of precincts reporting. Those remaining precincts are all in the state's two most populous areas, Phoenix and Tucson.

If the GOP pulls out these two Senate races, they'll not only hold on to the Senate, but add at least four seats, depending on the outcome of the Mississippi runoff election.

Welcome to two more years of gridlock, bitterness and Trump Toilet Tweets.

The know-nothing cynic is Trump's core constituency.

I was hopeful about Gillum but always skeptical a black man could get elected in Florida. Not only do you have normal Southerners in rural areas, you also have retirement communities like The Villages and On Top of the World where seniors from across the country move and bring their prejudices with them. The Dems won the House -- barely -- and Trumpers came out for him. I never felt Abrams could overcome the bullshit Kemp was doing in Georgia.

National Margin of victory is meaningless in statewide Senate races.

Or, disproportionate representation in states with no people is problematic.
