I know, right? And yet there’s Van Jones, using the word “cooler.”

Wait, what? Democrats lost Senate seats. He’s the first POTUS in years to gain Senate seats in the mid term. Reagan lost seats, Clinton lost both the House and Senate, W lost seats, Obama lost the House. You need to study up your history. You have no idea what you’re taking about.

The Senate means more anyway. Ginsburg is on her death bed. He will appoint at least one more Justice, much more easily this time. Tuesday night was a gain by Republicans. He’s assured to control the SCOTUS for the next 20-30 years.

Another overlooked fact. Within red states, the urban-rural divide is happening too. Democrats won House seats in Charleston, Oklahoma City and it looks like Salt Lake City. And of course, Texas's cities have gone decidedly blue. Beto got a higher percentage of the vote in Austin than Warren got in Boston.

The Republican Party is literally run by a celebrity.

In its endless quest for simplicity, Middle-American authenticity and respect, conservatives continue to vote for actors and game-show hosts.

I mean, I'm sure the board gets this to a degree, as you're been trying to exactly phrase it for about two years or so.

But what's to be done about it? I promise you, just because they back off supporting trans people or whatnot, that won't help. You could say, "be less strident," but you lose enthusiasm, and of course the consistent failures of the left have come as people enthusiastically voted for certain things or candidates or ideas on the right. So you try to balance. I'm not saying the Democrats are doing well (they're fucking not), but saying, "quit being pushy," when the other, very successful, side is highly pushy, implies a pushy right doesn't push right over a docile left. And we've seen that shit happen too.

Now you later brought up those celebrities. This becomes a challenge of narrative control, and no real tangible actions are going to fix that. And the left isn't going to fix that Fox News problem because the dirty little secret is, the right is very good at taking whatever the fuck and making it a downside for the left. If the left could somehow be separated from all that coastal money, there's still a narrative avenue to making the left a "them," and sure as shit a good narrative machine is going to find it.

There's also another, much less your hobby horse, idea here. What if, and here me out, our tribalism has moved us to such a degree that we support policies from the other side, but remain supporting our tribe. What if that is in fact the only thing?

(Christ, we live in a world where 80 percent of high-ranking Dems can't say something without stepping on their own tongues. 80 percent of republicans can't say something without coming off as a scummy shitbag or a servile wimp. And the strongest voices on any side, thinking a pair who talked at a rally a few days ago, live the finest millionaire lives and rail about elitism. In many areas, nothing means anything)

The NRA is not bigger than Trump. The NRA has been built up to be a bogeyman that, I’m sure, thrills the NRA to no end.

Trump could tell the NRA where to go and he’d be fine. Perhaps, one day, he’ll put his head out of his contrarian ass and do that.

Anybody know how many desks are on the House floor? I’m guessing it’s close to 600 because of the SOTU address. You’ve got to have room for the Senate and SCOTUS, right?
