I’m fairly impressed that a century’s worth of unspeakable shit in Europe can be twisted into a progressive imperative for current Americans.

Has he even made an official trip to California since Jan. 2017? It's not like these fires are a new problem.

It's that Europe reacted to that century with a series of initiatives, which, however imperfect, have resulted in peace among its major powers. These initiatives required US support to succeed. That's the lesson here.

If ballots are missing, shouldn't you want to find and count them?

Not surprising. We BENEFITED from much of that shit.

America was "great again" when it was left unscathed while the rest of Europe was in ruins. We're at our strongest when SOMEBODY ELSE (a race of people, a continent, etc.) is in complete misery.

This country would take credit for the Big Bang if it could.
    We ARE Donald Trump.

"Current Americans" seem to care a great deal about gas prices and Israel, to name two contemporary concerns.

The current map of the Middle East is almost entirely a result of World War I.

For good or ill we're tangled up with Europe.

I’m just trying to follow the progressive logic that simultaneously needs to Europe to be way ahead of America on the cool, important fronts, yet vulnerable to the “isms” of the 20th Century in a way that makes the US responsible for the continent and to blame - because, ignorance - if the continent goes to hell in a handbasket.

It’s like Europe is America’s beautiful-but-unstable muse or something.
