You also misremember what he said because he did not say that.

Correct. He spent the last three years of his career with the Reds as a player-manager. He stopped playing after 1916 and stuck to managing in 1917 and 1918, stepping down as manager late in the season to join the Army.

I will be quite curious to see how Joe Maddon gets along with Epstein this year. Last year of his contract. He turns 65 in February. Supposedly, they've come to an agreement to not talk about an extension in the off-season, which seems a little odd.
Meanwhile, Ned Yost still occupies space in Kansas City.....for this year and possibly next which boggles the mind

I'm a little surprised the AL ROY voting wasn't closer. Ohtani played so many fewer games than Andujar, I'm surprised it was virtually ignored.

Took Andujar abut 240 more PAs to hit five more HRs. Bunch more doubles, but Ohtani had a better OPS and OPS+. Plus he pitched.

Not sure if voters took into account Andujar's defense, which was God-awful.

I was thinking about that, but Otani was a DH.

    And a pitcher.

Right, but we're already giving him credit for that. Does he get it twice?

Yes, I think he should get extra credit for being able to do what no MLB player in more than 100 years has been able to do successfully.

Exactly. It's strange some people have a hard time grasping that.

    Can we review the conversation:

Otani wins because he hit almost as well AND pitched!
But Andujar played so much more
Yeah, but he only hit 5 more HRs (and many doubles) in all those extra ABs; and he pitched!
Maybe they held Andujar's defense against him - was bad.
OK, but Otani didn't field at all, he was a DH
Why won't anyone acknowledge that he pitched?
