NFL Week 11 Running Thread: Chiefs-Rams Going Back to Cali

For fuck's sake, can somebody please sign Kaepernick just so we can finally dispense with this bullshit once and for all?
I'm not talking about the collusion/blackballing conspiracy theories, either. I'm talking about the non-stop takes that "Team X needs to sign Kaepernick now!" whenever a quarterback gets hurt. If this doesn't end soon, people will still be saying he should be signed in 2030 when he's been out of the league for 15 years.

 

This was basically the Jaguars playing their best style. Lot of running and defense and the game was going to come down to if Bortles could make a play on two in the fourth quarter to extend a drive or convert a third down and take more time on the clock.

He didn't. They lost.

Roethlisberger was mostly shit but did what he needed to when it needed to be done.

 

No Nathan Peterman?

 

Roethlisberger played horribly the entire first half, though the rest of the offense was just as bad. His third interception was a bad decision, but it was also Ramsey arriving early and getting away with pass interference. (That said, the Steelers had plenty of calls go their way, too.)

Somehow, Roethlisberger figured things out late in the game.

Bortles made one really good play all day, spinning away from a sack and scrambling for a first down to keep the Jaguars' one touchdown drive alive. It's not all on him, though. Jacksonville couldn't protect him, the running game disappeared in the fourth quarter and the Jags' receivers just aren't very good.

Mike Tomlin pointed out that most of the time when a team runs that well on you and dominates time of possession, the defense starts missing more tackles and allowing the opposition to push the pile. The opposite happened today. The Steelers were missing tackles and getting pushed backward while trying to tackle Fournette much of the game, but suddenly tightened up against the run in the fourth quarter to give the offense a chance to rally.

 

You’re.right! Peterman is the man. Every defensive back’s wet dream.

 

It continues to amaze me that the NFL doesn't see what you see. The way to put this issue to bed is to give the guy a job and see what he can do. If he succeeds, there's a lucky team, and your lawsuit goes away. If he fails (more likely), problem solved. If he lingers as a second-stringer who plays like six downs a year (IMO the most likely outcome), problem solved again.

 

If he's given a chance and fails, there will just be wailing that "He was put in a terrible situation" and "He was set up to fail just so you could be rid of him!"

This is where we are today. Politics and everything else.

 

I don't think so. Tim Tebow had a lot of fans for sociological reasons that weren't his fault, but when he washed out, pretty much everyone accepted that he had.

 

Full disclosure, I'm a lifelong Skins fan. With 6 games to go and fighting for a playoff berth, you're not going to bring in Kap when you've got a QB who has been in your system for several years and, by most accounts, the head coach just loves. The reality is you don't sign up for all that comes with Kap at juncture of the season unless you're prepared to immediately start him and weather a QB controversy. If they do bring in another Checkdown Charlie and start him ahead of Colt two weeks from now, it will prove I have no idea of what I'm talking about.

 

Maybe this has been rehashed, but the Giants have been blown out only twice this miserable season. The other games, quick glance, have been decided by 7 or less. A raw comment on the utter mediocrity of the league.
