I don't think age is the real concern with Paxton. The guy just can't stay healthy. Maybe he has a healthy, dominant season in him, but the odds seem to be against it based on what we've seen to this point in his career.

I thought it was more of a win-now move. If you are only considering the 2019 season, I would much rather have Paxton than Sheffield.

Kaprielian was also injured at the time (he hadn't pitched since 2016 before playing an instructional league game in October), as was Dustin Fowler.

I'll only say that while Cashman hasn't had any success in bringing over a difference-making pitcher in a trade, he also hasn't given away anyone of note, to date (jury is still out, obviously, on Fowler, Kaprielian and Mateo).

Um, Brooks Robinson might have something to say about that. Don't just go off of the first thing that pops up on Google Philly.

Brooks is Top 10, but he was a below-average offensive player for probably a third of his career. He's not quite at the level of the others I mentioned in my opinion.

Schmidt is my personal baseball hero, so bias should be noted, but this is not close. Third base is a power position, and nobody is near him in that regard, PLUS he was a perennial Gold Glove.
