It's really a win-win situation for Republicans of the Bush era. They can turn up their noses and pretend they hate Trump while he's doing the heavy lifting in fulfilling their agenda. Trump's skilled enough politically to win electorally, get them their tax cuts and keep the tea party/deficit whackos in the party happy with tiny American flags and rallies and bluster even while in effect we're just getting Bush-era economics again. He's the most useful idiot ever.

GM stock tumbles after Trump threatens to cut all subsidies - CNN

"It's not clear what subsidies Trump was referring to.
A person familiar with the matter told CNN Business that GM is unaware of any significant federal subsidies the company is receiving beyond a $7,500 plug-in tax credit, which goes to the consumer, not the company."

GM's business may have some troubles coming on, but it's way more because auto sales are slowing down (they have leveled off this year and have started to roll over recently) than it is because of tariffs. Tariffs that drive up the cost of inputs for automakers don't help their business, but the big problem GM is facing is that interest rates have been rising after nearly a decade in which they were price-fixed so that it was artificially free to borrow, which made it so that people with even small incomes were buying $35K cars. Every Tom, Dick and shitty FICO score was able to secure a subprime auto loan and GM was selling record numbers of vehicles each of the past few years. But with interest rates rising, and a lot of defaults on those past loans a real possibility, GM is already getting hit by a slowdown, and it is staring at a possible drop off a cliff in sales on the near horizon. Their whole business the last 5 or 6 years has been on the back of the Federal Reserve creating a credit bubble beyond anything we have seen.

The tariffs are a much more headline friendly excuse for GM when they are closing a plant and facing backlash. And tariffs certainly don't help GM's business. Tariffs are taxes on consumers, and there are only losers in idiotic trade wars. But there is way more at work here than the simplistic tariff narrative.

Ford, beginning in 2020, is only making SUVs, pick ups and Mustangs in the US
All other makes, like the Focus, Fusion and Taurus, will be eliminated

Yes. GM is even a bit late to the party in cutting manufacturing of passenger vehicles, which have low margins and are not the best sellers here. Sergio Marcinonne did it with Fiat Chrysler a few years ago, announcing they were going to focus on trucks and SUVs for the US market. Everyone said he was nuts, but he was really seeing what was ahead before others. Then Ford earlier this year, as you mentioned. Toyota axed the Scion brand, as well.

The tariffs on steel and aluminum drive up costs, but lower gas prices have consumers switching to SUVs and pickups. Should the price of gas go up again, as it will sooner or later, the auto makers will be wrong footed once again as consumers go for smaller more fuel efficient cars once more. Another thing that I don't believe gets much attention. Cars are infinitely better made than they were a decade ago, let alone when I was young. They last longer, so in effect every sales boom now has a built-in slump at its end as it reaches x number of people who have many years left on their current model if they choose to keep it or must for their own financial reasons.

And he tries to justify killing kids by talking about things that never really happened in Vietnam and Mogadishu.

Those mid-size SUVs are getting way better gas mileage than they used to. I've said this before, but I drove a newer Nissan Rogue for a week and it got better gas mileage than my 2008 Altima.

I can absolutely afford a new car, I just don't feel like dealing with a car payment at this point. I drive company vehicles quite a bit in the summer, so it's not a priority for me. The Altima has 168,000 miles and has had very few issues outside of routine maintenance. If that changes, I'll buy new. But not until then.

Um, weeeeeeeeeeeellll, doesn’t everyone? Don’t YOU think your side is right about abortion? Don’t YOU think your side is right about guns?

You literally just described everybody, but you deny it’s true.

Those people give specific examples of WHY trump is a pos. You just keep saying Obama is, without giving any examples of why you think that.

There is a massive difference, I'm not surprised you can't see that though.
