7.0-magnitude quake rocks buildings in Anchorage

 

I know Alaskans are tough and hardy folks. But losing a bunch of houses right as winter approaches is not good.

 

All the TV stations knocked off the air, per CNN. KTVA is showing damage to its studios via Facebook.

 

Tsunami warning off. But no flights getting out of Anchorage airport.

And the president has been briefed. I know some of you are not going to believe this, but, he's offering thoughts and prayers!

By magnitude, 8 of the 10 worst earthquakes in American history have been in Alaska.

Alaska in general is incredibly seismically active. The Aleutians have an earthquake somewhere practically every day. A quick search on the USGS site shows 43 earthquakes of 4.5 or larger in Alaska -- most of them in the Aleutians -- in the past four months.
This one today was centered almost right on top of Anchorage.

 

That is terrifying.
