That was my initial reaction, but falling off a cliff/getting injured is a factor. How much less per year is worth the extra three years?
Also, I wonder if salary inflation will continue to go down and how top end salaries will be affected.

Anyone scanning tea leaves to determine whether Nationals slugger Bryce Harper will stay in Washington or flee for greener pastures/paychecks should check this out: The free agent did not re-up the lease on his Arlington penthouse, according to real estate site the Real House Life of Arlington.

Harper’s 2,000-square-foot, two-story “NY loft-inspired” unit in the Rosslyn neighborhood’s luxe Wooster Mercer building was leased by another tenant in November, reports the site, which is run by an Arlington real estate agent. A Nats rep had “no comment” to our query about the report. Washington Post

Shit man, how is that multi-millionaire ever going to find another place?

Lerner even said he doesn't think Harper re-signs.
I think the Dodgers will spend whatever to make sure Harper doesn't go to another NL team.

If I'm Cashman, and Daddy is opening up the checkbook, do you find someone to take Andujar to........put Torres at SS and swing the gates open for Machado?

I'm surprised how quiet the Giants have been. Figured that team was headed for a major reboot - something like the Mariners did, but even more extreme.

Late night reliever market is open:

Familia to the Mets, 3 for 30 mil
Joe Kelly to the Dodgers, 3 for 25 mil

I've heard some talk show speculation regarding that very scenario, with Andujar possibly included in the three-way deal with the Mets and Marlins that would have sent Realmuto to the Mets and Syndegaard to the Yankees.

Alright Reds fans: How do I feel about Tanner Rainey after the Nats and Reds' Tanner-for-Tanner deal yesterday?

I saw this the other day. The version I saw mentioned either Andujar or Gary Sanchez as the Yankees' pieces. As a fan, I would personally much rather it be Sanchez. I think he can be dynamic with a bat in his hands, but often he plays like he doesn't give a shit. I really like Andujar and think he is going to be a very good player for a long time. The thing that struck me the most about Andujar last season was how unintimidated he seemed. He plays well under pressure. He isn't much in the field, but third base was new for him, and what he does with a bat more than makes up for his mediocre fielding. The thing about that deal I wouldn't understand, if it happened, is why the Mets would do it. I wouldn't be so quick to let Syndegaard go if the object is to compete, but if you are going to do it, surely you can turn him into something more than Realmuto. There would probably have to be more in it for the Mets. From the Yankees perspective, though, I would be OK with that. I put more of a premium on good pitching than good hitting, because it is harder to find. And you need to give up something good to get something good. Who knows how much truth there was to that one, though.

The Yankees seem to love Sanchez far too much for him to be traded.

The worst late last night was they're setting up things that sill be consummated before Christmas. How many times have we heard that before?

Still, when the big news is a) Posey's injuries were worse than thought; and b) some bullpenning ...
