Harold Baines was a bird whose migration path went from the south side of Chicago to Baltimore and back over and over again. A couple of times he got lost in Texas, Oakland and Cleveland, but he always found his way back to his nests.

Hey, Harold might've been the only power hitter on his A's teams that wasn't juicing. So that's an argument for him...

Russo has been very critical of Baines in the HOF all week and good for him for standing up here. Not every talking head would do the same in front of the smartest man in baseball (gag).

the same electorate that voted for Thomas Jefferson -- white, male property owners -- wasn't the same electorate that voted for Grover Cleveland or for Herbert Hoover or Donald Trump. Cleveland had black males in the mix; Hoover, females; Trump, Russians....

    Things evolve :)

True. But it’s not like we have people who win the popular vote for president and somehow lose.

Ironically, superficial bullshit arguments are the only ones LaRussa and anyone else can make for Baines.

    Game-winning RBIs? What?

I know Im beating a dead horse here, but I can't believe all of the bandwidth being wasted on Harold Baines. Can't believe how angry people are about it. Maybe Im a weirdo, but Im happier for what seems like a good guy getting a great honour than the supposed "watering down" of the Hall of Fame. Who cares?

I really like Jeff Passan. Don't know him at all, but I think his work is excellent. First-rate. I see him mocking Tony LaRussa in that tweet, and it leaves a bad taste. LaRussa is clearly very happy for Baines. He's going out of his way to make what he probably knows is a ridiculous argument, because he thinks Baines doesn't deserve social media trashing at what should be a special time. It's a nice thing, really.

The reaction to Baines is over the top.

Wait a second. This wasn't a former manager sticking up for a player in the media. LaRussa was the one who helped push Baines into the Hall of Fame by being on the committee. He' s not some innocent bystander here protecting a former player. He was a big reason this happened.

Ah, ok, sorry I missed that. My overall point still stands. The opposition to Baines is too much.
