The alternative: Boot the ball straight up and see if it lands behind you, then down it. Then tell the coach, "I was tying to pin them down but I only got 29 yards to work with."

The potential for fun is endless. Tackle reverse. Statue of Liberty. Little Giants. Drop kick.

Then the coach says, "get serious, we're trying to win here," you just say, "yeah, well, I'm not the one punting from the 30-yard line down 49-7."

I've never understood bowl officials being paid period. I'm sure the schools and conferences would gladly take it on with an assistant AD and some interns. The "scouting" of teams is a joke. Maybe you spend some bread taking the bowl sponsor CEO out for a night on the town - but other than that - every team in the country has staff that regularly arranges busses for transport, meals for teams and air travel and lodging. Arrange for practice fields and shine up the trophy. Is there that much more to it?

I'll give the Outback Bowl guy his due for taking the Outback sponsorship from the Gator Bowl and the rebranding. (Was Outback among the first bowls, if not the first, to just be called by a sponsor name? It's been that for 20-plus years now.) But, I agree with you, everything else should be on autopilot now. Like negotiating with ESPN? C'mon.

Apologize for the typo. Buses. Yes. And I do understand that there was a time when bowl execs worried that their golden goose might get done in by a playoff and that legislators knew the importance of bowl games to the local communities. I hope now everyone realizes the bowl games will survive no matter how insignificant they are.

First Responders Bowl canceled after 10 minutes. Don’t know exactly how long they waited. Two hours perhaps. I’m pretty sure there have been regular season games in which they waited longer than this bowl game did.

Holding the teams over a night was not an option?

I bet not having a TV slot was the biggest issue.
