What is the national interest of Russia in the political stability of Syria?

The article you linked cited the fact that a Russia toy store chain just did an IPO. That's nice but how significant is it? The Russians still have a problem developing any other industry. Where is there Huawea? Where is there any non- nature resources company that sells anything. MAybe a couple of steel companies but that is about it.

I agree that Russia has a good and generally broad based educational system. I do not think that Russia ever had a better educational system than Singapore (I worked there also).

But the political appeals to nationalism, the foreign interventions and the maintenance of power by a tight oligopoly remind me of Venezuela under Chavez. Putin, unlike Chavez, generally believes in a market economy and Russia has the ability to pump a lot more oil than Venezuela so things will be better for the Russians.

While Putin has done a brilliant job of restoring Russia as a geopolitcal power, especially given the historical and economic constraints he has to deal with. But he has made very little progress into turning Russia into anything more than a petrostate.

If we don’t need to be in Syria. If we are pulling out of Afghanistan. If we expect the other countries to increase their defense spending. If trump believes that treaties can be withdrawn from at any time, why do we need all those Aircraft Carrier Groups? Nationalism means no large standing army. If we don’t get involved overseas, why the huge force?

A lot of folks who loathe Trump won’t love what “the resistance” has in mind, if said resistance mindset gets run of the country.

Well, can you let us know what that is and why it would be good or bad.

Since the actual (not online) "resistance" that did the work for the Democratic party in the midterms is primarily composed of middle aged women of color and middle aged white college educated women, I doubt "whatever they have in mind" is too threatening unless one is threatened by the baseline Democratic party platform.

Systemic change. That’ll be a key buzzphrase. A top-down wholesale reworking of how we talk and act will be top of list.

I’m not sure we’ll see it, honestly. I’d rather we didn’t.

He might have child porn on his computer

    I wouldn't be surprised

Many people have been saying so

We'll see. Or maybe we won't.

Unless the constitution is going to be significantly amended or rewritten, there won’t be systemic change, under any circumstance. Unless the legislative or executive branch abdicates its role as the Republican Congress had done for the last 2 years. And that’s electoral so temporary. The executive is a dimwit and hasn’t systemically changed anything except his appointees

What? How is government-financed health insurance, the main demand of today's left still speaking to and with the Democratic Party, which is as pie in the sky as it can be in 2019, do that?

If you forget to add the I and the A to LGBTQ - or the +, don't forget the +! - you're off to the left-wing, transgender, sjw, PC gulag!

No one in history has been more oppressed than white, straight, conservative, Christian American men!
