As far as I can tell, he's still 'stable but critical' in an induced coma.

That's not how the ratings work. They get adjusted to the actual programming, not just the time slot.

 

So it's just poor planning by the networks?

 

Maybe, but not necessarily.

The networks may not care how long it runs.

Also, I suspect a lot depends on who is promoting and running the event. If it's the network, they'll likely make sure it runs on time. If it's independent of the network the promoter may not care how it times out.

Regardless, Sportscenter isn't getting credit for people who are actually watching boxing.
