    You really write skewed histories on here that confirm these mind-boggling narratives you invent. Khruschev may have deployed missiles in Cuba as an answer to the US having deployed those Jupiter missiles in Turkey the year before. That doesn't make the US a "winner" that then turned into a loser. It describes escalating acts of aggression during a period in the cold war. How you turn that into a winner / loser narrative is silly. First, the idea that they traded the Turkish missiles for the Cuban missiles is at least a little debatable. They didn't remove the missiles from Turkey until 5 months after the Cuban Missile crisis was resolved. It probably was a part of an agreement they had made in private, but the alternative was the two countries sitting relatively close to each others borders with missiles pointed at each other. That didn't create a loser. It created two winners, in the context of the day.

    No, it did not create a loser.

    But like it or not, that's often how things are viewed any time we retreat from an aggressive position. Often because we can't comprehend the whole "two winners" concept. The winner must be US. Any victory by China or Russia or North Korea MUST be a US loss.

    Withdrawal from Syria as the latest case in point.

    The main thing JFK and RFK did in the Cuban Missile Crisis was rein in the hell-bent for leather Joint Chiefs who were just itching for an excuse to launch nukes, on the grounds that we could stop 90% of incoming Soviet bombs.
