I’m sure they have been. I’d be curious to know when they were scheduled to be closed. Usually, power plants don’t just close up shop one day out of the blue.

Domestic supply of natural gas, a lot of it due to fracking over the last decade +, has gotten extremely cost competitive with coal for running power plants. Demand is moving to where the fuel is cheaper and more plentiful.

US coal shipments by rail, which track mine production closely, in December reached their highest total since mid-2017, due in part to rising natural gas prices and more consumption by energy producers.
    But...

U.S. coal consumption in 2018 expected to be the lowest in 39 years - Today in Energy - U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)

Also, that big spike in Nat gas prices in November into December doesn't look to have held. Prices traded pretty violently back down and are now back in that sub 3 BTU area. I have no idea what that has done to coal shipments, but it's clear that nat gas, and even renewables, are where the demand inreasingly is, not coal. As long as relative prices stay in their current ballpark, that is a trend that is probably going to continue.

They’re so full of shit it isn’t funny.

Airline Pilots, and their union, are the biggest hostage takers out there when they are negotiating. They don’t give two fucks about the efficiency of the system when they implement a slowdown, which can ripple across the entire industry.

Oh, I’m not defending airline passengers.

And, I’m friends with some airline pilots. But, even among their co-workers, pilots are the least liked among the various work groups.

Surgeons and pilots, man. Unfortunately, they know how necessary they are and like to let you know it.
