The government is shut down, solely due to this issue.

Yeah, but that doesn't automatically mean you hand over all the prime time real estate he wants. And he hasn't earned the faith that it will be worthwhile.

    True.

But it's a political problem - and almost exclusively his fault.

Does he get to hold the press hostage, too? Do we have to continue to normalize his aberrant behavior out of respect for the office?

    It's complicated.

    On-screen real-time fact checking.

With a loud blaring alarm for lies.

Here's the premise for the address

    Maybe start with this:

Are either of these conditions true?

Is there a "national security crisis" on our southern border? Is there a "humanitarian crisis"?

And he doesn't mention the shutdown.

I'm sure I can find a Law & Order rerun to watch instead. Probably one I've seen five times. Five times!

Good evening. My fellow Americans, I speak to you tonight from the White House about a matter of national security--namely the eight billion immigrants who cross our southern border every day. That's a great number, eight billion. Tremendous number, eight billion. And the reason these immigrants are coming to America is because of all the jobs I have created. I have created more jobs than the previous 17 presidents combined. Believe me.

When I started my campaign for president, the greatest campaign in the history of the United States, I talked a lot about Mexican rapists coming to America. The fake news media screamed about how terrible it was that I said it, but it is true and it had to be said. Obama never said it. I said it. Immigration is a key issue for me even though my mother and my three wives are not immigrants, they were all born in Chuck Grassley's state in Sioux City. People tell me that recently Elizabeth Warren went to Sioux City which I think is amazing. Sioux City! Lots of people want to sue me. I always win when people sue me.

We built a brand-new wall in San Diego, and it's working really well. You should go and look at it. It's amazing. It's incredible how well it works. But these coyotes and these human traffickers, they make a right turn before they get to the port of entry. They go as far as the wall is, or as far as the barricade is, and then they make a left: "Welcome to the United States." And what they do with usually the women -- sometimes children, but usually the women -- that they're trafficking with, and in, you don’t want to know about. And just remember, human traffickers. Remember drugs. The drugs are pouring into this country. And the Democrats, oh the Democrats and their friends in the fake media don't care about this because most of them are on drugs.

I have asked, very strongly, for 5.6 billion dollars and the Democrats don't want to give it to me because they are focused on 2020. They claim that the shutdown is hurting federal workers. Not true. Most federal workers, at least the ones who are not Democrats agree with me. Just the other day a park ranger came up to me with tears in his eyes and said, "Thank you, sir, for shutting down the government." He told me he could go without a paycheck as long as it takes to get stronger border security.

It's a "Mueller is about to throw my family and cofeve boys in jail" crisis.
