Almost all of these fires are torching the red part of the state

 

California pays out way more money to the federal government than it takes in. I wish there were a mechanism in place for the state to tell the federal government to go fuck itself come tax time.

The fear other elected Republicans have of their "base" of racist morons is real and powerful. Their fear of where Trump's going is equally real, just not as powerful yet. What will happen to change that equation? Most likely some disaster related to the shutdown. Plane crash. Terror attack on an inadequately screened airport. Or if we're lucky, massive food poisoning outbreak. That's when the shit will get real.
