As always, it's different when they do it. Besides, Trump is following Vlad's orders.

Johnson knew VN was a cluster right from the start. Too bad he didn't trust his own judgment, but he was very insecure and was influenced by the clowns he kept from the Kennedy administration. And the Democrats were still suffering from the "soft on Communism" charges leveled by McCarthy and other Republicans in the 1950s.

The best thing he could have done on Nov. 24, 1963, was fire his entire cabinet and bring in his own guys instead of the Kennedy guys, none of whom were loyal to Johnson and almost all of whom had never served in any elected office. As Sam Rayburn said in 1961, (paraphrasing) "Yeah, they're smart guys, but I wish at least one of them would have at least been elected sheriff."

They were smart, but had no idea how to govern. Kennedy was long on style and short on accomplishment; Johnson was his polar opposite, and a brilliant, brilliant politician.

As far as his social agenda goes, Johnson was one of our greatest presidents. But he'll never be remembered for that (yeah, I know, 'Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?').
