With our comparatively short (vis a vis the rest of the world) four-year terms and a limit of two terms, there isn't as much urgency in America to remove someone who arguably should be. The turnover is so rapid anyway.

During the Super Bowl? His staff should tell him to get bent. What's he going to do, fire them before he resigns?

Andrew Johnson was impeached for violating the Tenure of Office Act, which was put in place purley to impeach him. He tried to get rid of Edwin Stanton, who may or may not have had a hand in the Lincoln assassination.
Johnson was far from a great president or individual, but he was in a no-win situation during Reconstruction thanks to the Radical Republicans.

It probably had something to do with the fact that Johnson's reconstruction policies put the white supremacists of the former confederacy back in control and would have returned blacks to virtual servitude.

If the 25th amendment wasn't intended for a time like this, then get rid of the thing. It serves no purpose.

Like other posts I've made, actually read what I said. Johnson wasn't great on many fronts. Nothing he did or didn't do would been good enough for the purveyors of post Civil War history. People start with a conclusion they want then fit the narrative to that end. Lincoln wasn't even that popular until he took one in the back of the head. He barely won re-election in 1864 running against one of his own generals. Everybody wants to squawk about the Lost Cause myth; they need to look at the myth written by the winners.

Lincoln won the popular vote in 1864 by a near-landslide 55-45 margin over McClellan. The electoral vote was a 212-22 wipeout.
