Looking at guys who didn't die, Bol Bol's injury could very well cost him draft spots. Which is money.

I wish guys would just play for free because I like college basketball better.

Next up, a mega zillion dollar product liability suit by Team Zion against NIKE.

Part of it is we don't know. Would we know anything about Steph Curry if he blew out his knee in his freshman season?

Didn't Reggie Lewis die in the offseason?

For no reason whatsoever, recently I found myself thinking about Hank Gathers, wondering what kind of pro he would have become. And that makes me wonder how Len Bias would have been, too. I don't know if either would have been a transcendent talent in the NBA, but I definitely could see each having long, successful careers with at least a few All-Star Game appearances.

Lewis first collapsed in a playoff game.

Wasn't Gathers partly a product of his system?

I'm too young/was too uninterested in CBB to have seen Bias. How good was he? Struck me like there was some mythologizing, but that might be my lack of memories.

Bias was damn good. Kevin Garnett might be a fair recent comparison.

Bias was more of a skinny Zion, but built like a greek god.

Go to YouTube and check out a highlight clip. He was an inside outside beast and would definitely have been a multi-year all-star. gathers? He was a tweener in that he was 6-7 and didn’t IIRC have a very good midrange game. Not sure how he would have transitioned to the pros but i know he held his own and then some against Shaq and other future pros.

There was definitely plenty of postmortem mythology about Bias -- I've read several stories claiming the Celtics would have ushered in a Russellesque decade-long dynasty, etc etc. had he lived.

Bird was already in decline phase and McHale was starting to slide too. Even with Bias, the Celtics would have to have got past the Pistons and Bulls both in the Eastern Conference.

I'm sure Bias would have been very good, but I doubt he would have boosted the Celtics past both those dynasties every year-- I'm sure they would have done it a couple times.

Losing Reggie Lewis in addition to Bias was indeed a huge loss. If they both live out healthy careers, of course a lot of things would have been different.

One of the big what-ifs is that Bias would have been able to allow the Celtics to rest Bird, McHale and Parish more often and they wouldn't have broken down as much.
