Duke had two players combine for 50 shots last night.

I cannot remember ever seeing that in a traditional college game.

Watching Wofford-UNCG in the SoCon championship. Great game. Watching Wofford play reminds me of "My Losing Season," Pat Conroy's great, great book about his senior year team at The Citadel. White guys with short hair, passing and cutting, passing and cutting.

Wofford is so damned fast. They'll be in a 5-12 game. As the 5.
If they drop to an 8-9, heaven help the No. 1 (probably Virginia) in that pod. Season over for the nominally top dog.

Last night's Scott Van Pelt bad Beats was the best ever. It was senior night Edition, with bench guys who never play involved in some crazy endings. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time.

“It’s not OK to not rebound. To have a freshman from Houston (Nate Hinton, a 6-foot-4 guard) get 11 rebounds. Not OK. The minute it becomes OK, you’re done. The day I allow that to be OK, my career will be in trouble.’’

I mean, he's got a point. What adjustments can you make that will make guys block out? So many guys are used to getting by on their athleticism that they don't develop fundamentals. (I know; revelatory.) But it's maddening to watch as a fan (much less a coach) when your guys get creamed on the glass bc they're not putting their ass on someone every time the ball goes up. This was happening to Georgetown against Marquette on Saturday. They managed to overcome it, but mostly bc Marquette was terrible from the field.

I’m not being snarky: Was he looking for a job and being shut out?

Yeah, he couldn't get a sniff anywhere. Best he could do was an assistant for 15 years in the NBA. Meanwhile, Jeff Van Gundy got hired twice.

EDIT: His involvement in the Atlanta sex club scandal definitely hurt his rep as a coaching candidate, and his ole buddy Jordan wouldn't throw him a bone, proving once again that Jordan was a great player and failed exec. But in a sport where big man are king, you'd think a guy with Ewing's lineage -- learning from John Thompson, being a Hall of Famer -- would have carried a lot of weight. Ultimately, he's where he belongs.

St. Mary's knocks off Gonzaga for the WCC title, automatic berth. The bubble just got smaller, some non-P5 team gonna get squeezed out.

Big East and American are generally part of the conversation when it comes to the power leagues in hoops. Outside of that? VCU and Utah State might be the only ones that are safely in without winning their tournaments. Utah State best reach the final, at least. Any loss VCU would take on its side of the A10 bracket would be a bad one: Rhode Island, La Salle, George Mason, St. Bonaventure, GW or UMass. URI is a little dangerous there.

Jeff Capel now has the same amount of ACC tournament wins at Pitt as Jaime Dixon.
