By leaps and bounds. Va Tech is going to lose Buzz because it can’t pay enough to keep him. Its arena is ancient by modern standards, and I don’t think there is a public plan for renovations.
We tend to think highly of the Hokie brand because of football. Frank Beamer is on the very short list of greatest coaches of his generation. That’s about all they’ve got, and it’s not related to hoops.

Sorry if he’s going. He could make Tech a consistent 2nd tier ACC school.

    Shaka Smart to Va Tech?

UNLVs heyday was at a time when old Vegas still had some relevance and hadn't been completely bulldozed by Steve Wynn-Sheldon Adelson yet. You go back and look at their schedule in the 1980s and they were playing a national OOC schedule (NC State when they had Valvano, Oklahoma with Billy Tubbs, LMU when they had Bo and Gathers, Navy when they had David Robinson John Chaney's Temple, etc.). UNLV basketball tickets were a nice comp to give to high rollers, so it made sense for some of those casino big wigs to keep the pump primed. Now that Vegas is more corporate than the Dow Jones and the city has pro sports, Vegas doesn't need UNLV to be good.

Gotta be Ryan Odom after he masterminded the greatest triumph in Hokie hoops history.

The arrival of pro sports is a huge deal. Competition in the marketplace.

Good name there. He’s probably recruiting for the Hokies right now.

To be fair, he is the 21st-highest coach at $3 million a year.

Did not know that. Couple of years ago, the AD cried poverty. Guess it worked.

Maybe Virginia Tech can one day defend an NIT title.
