I still haven't seen this, but I wonder if the guy fears his shot will be rejected. Generally speaking, I'm a big believer in the underdog shooting a 3-pointer when down two in the final seconds. Again, I haven't seen the video.

My guess is the plan all along was drive and kick. He never thought he'd be that wide open.
In real time, running full speed, the guy had maybe a half a second to decide. Probably not even that much.
All the keyboard athletes would have made the play, of course.

 

It was an open layup. You have to be prepared to take the shot.
