For all the complaints about Obamacare not doing enough - once those who didn't have health insurance finally had it, and it wasn't some odd abstract concept, but something they could use to go to the doctor more regularly and get prescriptions etc - it changed things. You can't miss something you never had - or could afford. Now people expect to be able to go to the doctor when they are sick.

    Speaking of which . . .

I'm on 10mg of Lisinopril. Every year since I started taking it (2013, I believe), the routine has been the same. Three-month prescription filled, three refills, then have to go back to the office for a physical to start the refill cycle all over again.

Until now. In an obvious attempt to get more money, doctor requires a six-month "followup" in between yearly physicals. Won't refill my prescription without it.

My crappy insurance only pays the freight for physicals once every two years as it is. And now I have to make twice as many office visits as before.

Hence why the number was an estimate.

If your doctor is in-network with your insurance, ask your insurance either to cover the six-month follow-up since it’s their provider who is requiring it or have them contact your doctor and tell him to knock it off since there presumably isn’t a six-month follow-up in their contract.

On a brighter note, spring has arrived, so Orange Blimpie can't hide inside his "fat coat" much longer.

The question isn't "Can they find someone else to buy insurance from?". Of course they can. The issue is whether they can afford to pay for it, and what is covered (and not covered) by the bargain basement plans Trump has allowed, as well as what the copays and coverage limits are. If you add pre-existing conditions to the mix, the new insurance may be a huge screw job there as well.

Well, it seems like it would be every six months (annual physical, with followup six months later).

Strange, I got the same "DOCTOR HAS NOT AUTHORIZED PRESCRIPTION REFILL" text message from pharmacy three months ago, but a call to the office straightened everything out. This time it didn't.

I may just change doctors. I'll ask him point blank, "Am I expected to come here every six months to keep my prescription filled?" and see what he says. The flunkies at the office may not really know.
