I take the same medication, which is issued in monthly form. I get three renewals and then the pharmacy has to check with the doctor. But I don't have to see him. His office handles the call and renews the prescription after they ask him. I never heard of your setup.

That is absolutely routine. The GP I worked for wrote routine Rx's with five refills, then you came back in. They have to make certain that your BP is staying where it is supposed to be. They also need to check labs to be sure that your meds are not throwing your blood chemistry out of whack and to check for side effects of meds, elevated liver enzymes, low potassium, etc. It is also not unusual for a BP med to work just fine for a period of years, after which the body becomes less responsive to it and it needs to be replaced by a similar med with a slightly different chemical formula. Dead routine.

This is not only good patient care (and it absolutely is), but is also butt-covering by the Dr. against a future malpractice claim. Every doctor lives in fear of sitting in a deposition in front of a lawyer who asks things like "So when *do* you recheck your patients? How long will you just write more prescriptions without bothering to see your patients, check on their welfare, and doing the normal lab rechecks? A year? Two years? How do you know that their potassium isn't so low that your prescription isn't putting their heart at risk, or that side effects of your medications are not damaging their liver?" Etc.

Don't go in for a physical, you'll get billed, as you said. Go in for seasonal allergies, or a cold, or back pain or something (preferably something that you actually have) and get the BP recheck and Rx while you are there. You can even be honest with the doc and say "Well, I've got routine springtime allergies really, not all that bad - but I needed to get my meds refilled and if I come in just for a physical, my insurance will bang me." Trust me, your doc knows all about doing what you have to do to make the insurance companies happy.

You do have to see him once a year, though, don't you?

Oh, sure. And I had to see him Monday for a pre-surgery physical, which was mostly just going over the record of my annual physical last month. Having cataract surgery in April.

He'll get around to naming a full-time Defense secretary, ATF chief, Chief of Staff, Interior, UN Ambassador, and the various ambassorships now that the tough ones are over with.

The "flunkies" at the office answer a thousand calls a day. Questions like "how long you can run on an Rx without coming back in" are bedrock policy, they deal with it all the time and know and understand the answer.

In general, at least in the offices I worked in, every Rx request goes to the nurse, who periodically takes stacks of messages for the Doc to review and either ok or not. Flunkies on the phone don't deny prescriptions.

You don't think Trump named these two, do you? He's not gonna pay any attention to an institution named after another President. This was from Mulvaney's shop.

"So this guy is walking through the park one day, and comes up on this older guy sitting on a park bench. The older gentleman is holding a leash, and attached to a leash is a big English Bulldog, who is feverishly licking his own balls. Guy says "Son of a bitch, I wish I could do that......".......Old gentleman on the bench says, "It's fine by me, but you might want to ask Winston first!"
