I think apathy destroying a lot of college basketball programs. With the advent of one and done very few stars emerge in the game. If a team consistently wins tere will be fan interest but in your program rarely visits an NCAA tournament interest in the program is pretty minimal.

I almost think its more important now to "win" recruiting than anything else - a top class to keep fans renewing the season tickets than a strong finish in the tourney. If you have a five-star on deck, a team is less likely to pull the trigger on a coach.

I realize getting Cuonzo Martin was a gift, and Jones was an economy hire - but Cal zeroing in on Mark Fox? Musselman never entered the discussion? Is he already locked up elsewhere?

The next job Musselman gets will be at UCLA.

Considering they've been looking for the next coach all season - it's odd he hasn't been announced already - unless he's still got a team playing. Which leaves:
Roy Williams, Coach K, Few, Bennett, Painter, Izzo, Pearl, Cal, LSU guy, Beard, Sampson or in the NIT, Shaka, Gregg, the Lipscomb guy or Dixon.

Their whole athletic program is being destroyed by apathy. Baseball is its most successful sport right now.

The fact that it's in Arkansas doesn't help. It's kind of amazing to me that they were ever good in anything. In-state fanaticism, but how many athletes?

It’s a mess. Small population. Poor state, except that UA is in incredibly affluent Northwest Arkansas. It’s isolated from the r at of the state.

They made the decision to go SEC. Good for exposure in football but now they’re in a bad place. They won men’s basketball in 1994 but I wish they have gone Big 8/Big 12 instead. Closer rivals and states. Imagine Nolan vs. Roy/Norm/Tubbs/Sutton all those years instead.

Nebraska is going through the same thing in the Big Ten. They’re isolated and the rest of the conference doesn’t fear them in football or men’s basketball.

Arkansas isn’t leaving the money tit of the SEC ever.

    Nope. They never will.

Even if it means 600-mile road trips for every non-revenue student athlete and few traditional rivals, even after 27 years in the SEC.

Fred Hoiberg getting the job in Lincoln. Big, big surprise ...
