Buzz Williams initially declines comment when asked about ATM job. When cornered by other reporters later, he engages in word salad by saying he has no idea.
    He gone.
Will be curious to see whom the Hokies hire.

Oldnews, but Niagara hired Pat Beilein. His dad grew up in nearby Newfane/Burt.

Kelvin Sampson to Arkansas sounds like a done deal. He could be introduced as soon as tomorrow.

Tech fans made peace with this weeks ago. Someone is mentioning Mick Cronin. Vomit.

No. Vomit is actually what you had before you hired Buzz. Cronin is a solid coach who hasn't missed the tournament in a decade.

I agree with your first statement. The James Johnson era was regrettable. I just think Cronin's an asshole.

I'm actually surprised Cronin would be interested in that gig or any gig, for that matter. Dude is a Cincinnati lifer who has extensive ties to the community. I guess he's seeing the limitations of the AAC.

Cincinnati seems not to be coming up with enough money for a contract extension.

Cincinnati could be coaching carousel loser if it doesn't lock up Mick Cronin

I covered one Cronin game as a freelancer and was aware of his reputation going in. But it was a game at VCU, and it was the return game for the game where Cronin couldn't coach because he was being treated for his aneurysm. Someone asked him about it in the postgame and he gave one of the most eloquent, passionate, thoughtful answers I've ever heard in a presser. It didn't square at all with what I had heard about him.

The truth, of course, is most likely that I just caught him on his best day, speaking on a subject that lent itself to such an answer. But he still really impressed me.

I would take any Cronin speculation with a grain of salt. Just saw some chatter on Twitter about it, so I don't even know if it's very serious.

Good point on the AAC, though. What a weird league. UConn and Memphis are theoretically sleeping giants, and Wichita's down year this year seemed like a blip. UConn and Houston seem to be there for good. Temple, like UConn, seems adrift right now. You have SMU and Tulsa which get their shit together every once in awhile. UCF, who knows if this year was a blip? Then you have South Florida, East Carolina and Tulane, which are all garbage. Cincy's always going to get respect because it's Cincy, but I could see where coaching in the ACC would be attractive.
