Why, in your opinion, did Donald Trump lie about and attempt to obscure his business interests in Russia?

You're exactly right, I believe. That's how I read it as well.

Remember, though, these people claimed that Trump said the US didn't have the world's biggest economy when he became president . . . all because they completely misread one of his tweets to fit what they wanted it to say.

The same reasoning. Because of the knee-jerk reaction it would have flamed. "He's got a business deal in Russia. OMG! What did he promise them so that he could get that deal?!?!?!?! We're dooooooomed!"

More than 3,000 US companies "do business" in Russia. Welcome to 2019.

it's all about diplomacy and optics but unlike trump who appreciates the nuances of every situation and deftly maneuvers within the rich contextual frame of each siutation the only thing you see and act on is hate that's why he called white supremacists very fine people because woooooo wait a minute this guy doesn't think all americans are very fine people how can we be made great again if we're not all very fine i mean really that's why he doesn't want anyone see his financial information because you won't even give him credit for good hygiene if he is laundering money what does that say about you besides that you can't play chess of any dimension

If any federal employee intentionally obscured a business relationship with a foreign country, what would happen?

    Beats me.

I have no working knowledge of the laws regarding regular citizens who have foreign business deals before they become federal employees. Nor do I have knowledge what you mean by "obscure" (the IRS knows, doesn't it?). And is it a "business relationship" if a venture is only pursued at one point but never completed?

Cleared Federal employees and contractors are required to disclose current and recent foreign financial interests and contacts with foreign nationals, and especially representatives of foreign governments.

"Obscure" - like, for example, sending your personal lawyer to Congress to lie about business relationships with Russia.

Trump Tower Moscow was still being pursued in 2016.

I know there’s no chance of an impeachment conviction in the senate.

But I’m starting to think the House should do it anyway.

Trump is a criminal. Clear obstruction of justice. Willingly accepting help from a hostile enemy. Failure to inform the FBI.

Impeachment is the right thing to do because these things can’t go unchecked. Sets at awful precedent.

Not sure if it’s politically helpful.

Damn sure republicans would’ve already started if this was the other way around.

Upon further review, as they say, I think you’re right. I rescind previous interpretation.

Many years ago, a friend of mine began dating a guy working at the Pentagon. Since she was a British citizen (now naturalized), the FBI came knocking one day to do a background check on her.

She wound up marrying (and eventually divorcing) him and she never did learn what - exactly - he did at the Pentagon.
